This year we did all the usual things, in a very timely fashion. We decorated the house for Christmas, sent out cards and ecards to those who would accept them, and planned a wonderful dinner, and invited our loved ones whom we knew would probably go nowhere if they didn't come here. Sherry was the first to beg off, because she has injured her knee very badly, and would need her doctor's approval to do anything other than a quick dash to the grocery store...(With help)...or just another trip to the doctor. Understanding, but disappointed, we have been in contact, and it looks as though Sherry will be going into a wheelchair any time. In the meantime, Mogwi has lost her wheelchair, because it needs repair, and they came and took it to the shop, and didn't even have the decency to leave her a loaner,so now she is crutching her way through the house, and doing a lot of falling. Poor thing. So, that left Yon son, his wife, and myself to be counting on for Christmas. Well, Wifey-poo is just as dependable as any other OTR truck driver...filled with good intentions, but going where the company sends her,and was still driving God knows where on Christmas eve,and now I guess her phone is off as well, so we didn't even hear from her. It doesn't matter, of course. Her presents will still be under the tree when she finally does make it home.We did do the normal thing, however, and contact the company to make sure that she was alright, and there was no reason to file a missing persons report! I mean, we are not stupid! So, Christmas day dawned, and it was the first Christmas Yon son has ever had off, so we did celebrate! Our day was Joy and laughter, singing carols, watching the traditional movies, and baking and cooking the feast, with all the lights blazing and opening presents, and making calls to pals in town that let them know we loved and prayed for them. As usual, Yon son went overboard, and gave me many wonderful gifts; so much so, that I felt I hadn't given him enough, but he dismissed my concerns with," Mom, don't worry about it! Over the years you have been the one to give me all the presents, so now it's my turn to make up for all those times when I had nothing to give." And so it goes. With an argument like that, all I can do is just shut up about it! And express my gratitude. Once again, we had each other, and we had many blessings of the Lord, and his Holy Spirit with us so we prayed, we munched, we napped, and just generally slopped around most of the day. It was wonderful. It would have been better, had Wifey come home, had Sherry been able to come, and If Mogwi been here, but even with those disappointments, we decided to be mature about this, and accept that things won't always go just as we would have them, and everything happens for a reason. So far as we know, all our loved ones were alright, and we were together, with a roof over our heads, and food and warmth, thanked God for what we had,and refused to allow anything to put a damper on our day.
I just hope that your Christmas was as wonderful as ours was!
The Merriest ever...and Happy New Year!!
