I just ran across a site and a subject it never occurred to me to see, seek, or think about it existing. A Caregiver's stress. In my experience, down through the generations of my family, we have always taken care of one another. With Joy, Love, singing and prayer, whether infant, sick child, handicapped, or a senior, it's all the same, done the same, and with the same spirit. Of course, in everyday life, there are bound to be stressful times, and yet, they had nothing to do with the one being cared for.And when those times came along, the Lord always provided the solution, as we knew he would...and the stress was relieved. The family, little or large, pulled together, prayed together, and withstood the difficulty with peace in the midst of the storm, held tight by HIS unwavering hand. But now, I understand, not all families are like that, and need others to come and intervene in that situation. Apparently it is no longer common knowledge that " He who does not take care of their own is worse than an infidel." Now, family problems must be solved by calling someone, like an agency that used to be a last resort only for those who had no one else to turn to.
It's sad.It brings to mind the smell of a home now vacated, with the scent hanging in the air of floor cleaner and windex, mingled with the residue of years of home cooked pot-roast and gravy. Eventually, the smell will fade from the house, as it is occupied by another family. But one never quite gets that scent out of their memory. Or the thought..."Did I do enough?"
