Otherwise known as C.S. Lewis' " The Lion, the witch, and the wardrobe." This is the latest, and very best presentation of this classic, done in vibrant color and full screen, live action, by Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media and it was well worth waiting for! This was a borrowed copy, and I am embarrassed to say that I let this languish on my kitchen DVD shelf for days before finally getting around to viewing it. Now, I knew the story. I have seen the animated version several years back, and even a sudo-live action one (with the talking animals done with puppets) shortly thereafter, but niether of those renditions went far enough to tell the whole story. Understandable, since Lewis wrote a series, of which "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" was only one part. Interestingly, the movie opens with the London Blitz where the family is threatened enough to run for the bomb shelter, and it is after that, the children are sent to the country. Lewis himself took in children sent to the country from London, so he speaks with some authority on the whole situation, but didn't start writing the series until after WWII was over, and wasn't published until 1950. And yes, I got the connection between Aslan and " the lion of Juda" even though it was almost completely obliterated in both of the previous films, and this production is not heavy handed about it's presentation either, but "Chronicles" is so beautifully done, that even if you get the analogy, you won't be disturbed by it, if it would ordinarily be your bent to do so. This is spectacular epic film-making at it's finest, that fills the screen with color and action that the whole family will want to see again and again! I will be buying my own copy, right away! I love this movie!
Aprox. 135 minutes running time, rated PG for violence (battle sequences) and frightening moments, not recommended for very young viewers. Dolby digitally mastered, with english, and other language subtitles, for the hearing impaired...or, if your like me, just to make sure you understand every word! Look for the copy with bonus features, which has bloopers, and other great features.
