I guess you could call it cheating, but first to obtain a great frame of mind, you have to have a son and daughter-in-law that are just wonderful! They were working together when they became friends, and then Yon son invited her over here for Bible study. From the very beginning, their relationship has been sweet and innocent. They became an item, because they went everywhere together, worked at the same place, shopped at the same stores, cashed their checks at the same place, and he actually trained her for the job.I noticed before they did how much alike they were.I think I was even the one who voiced it for the first time. They were standing by the door, getting ready to leave for work, both of them dressed in their uniforms, which they had chosen from a multitude of possibilities of color and style, but the both chose red and blue shirts, and black pants, with matching caps, with the company name on the upper right hand shoulder of the shirt, and stitched across the front of the hats.Of course, she is shorter, so he can be taller than, but otherwise, they were so alike. Both blonde, his lighter, but the cut so similar, so both have this fluffy shining hair, both with peaches and cream completions, and I couldn't help it.I shook my head, laughing at some silliness they were going on with, and said, " You two are so much alike, it's scary!" But it was so true. They were to the point they finished each others sentences. They liked most of the same foods, music and games and other entertainments, and even walked into grocery stores, looking for the same things...and basically agreed on everything.I never heard a harsh word between them, but until I shot my big mouth off, I don't think the thought ever crossed their minds, that they might actually be " a couple." Well, that was that. And what happened next, I think cemented it for them. His ex-wife died suddenly. He had never really gotten over her, and he was grieving so hard,it was only natural that she comforted him. And, the next thing I know, she is moved into the spare bedroom, and they announce they are getting married.
So here we are, three years later, and they are still married, but she has left the cab company in favor of driving truck over the road, has bought a house in another (bedroom) community, and has moved her mother and sisters and nephew and niece, and a stray boyfriend here and there into the house, but whenever she comes to town, she and Yon son spend a lot of time together catching up. Yeah, it's peculiar, but they make adjustments and just have a ball together when she's in town, so what can I say about it? I know he is faithful, and I assume she is too, and if they are happy with it, whose to say it is wrong?
So, as I told you in a previous blog, this last week, she took a spill, and injured her knee and leg very badly. As always, she called him as soon as she was able to let him know what had happened, and he got very upset and concerned because the company she drives for, to whom she went for help, gave her another vehicle to drive herself to the hospital, while blood from her knee is coursing down her leg,and Yon son is going bonkers over that! Meanwhile, he is about 500 miles away, and just distraught because he can't get to her, to help her through this mess....but he talks to her soothingly to calm her down, because I think she was in tears when she called, and four phone calls later, she has to calm him down because he is still irate over the shabby treatment from her company, as anyone can understand. So the next day, the company has another driver bring her home, and her truck is still up in Waterloo, and she comes home to us, because she is on crutches, and knows there is no way she can recover at her own home, and deal with having to go up and down stairs several times a day to reach the bathroom, from her bedroom. Well sir, you would have thought the queen was coming for a state visit, because all of a sudden, there are flowers in vases, and he is getting the house all straightened up, buys brand new sheets to put on the guest bed (they have a HUGE bed in their room, with three mattresses on it,and there is no way she could hope to make that leap with her sore leg,and back, and tender knee, and also, it was unspoken, yet understood there would be no hankey-pankey with her in that delicate condition. He is, after all, a gentle man, with a total horror of making any moves that might cause his wife any pain.) So, he makes up the bed, with all fresh sheets and pillowcases, lays in a supply of her favorite pop and foods, and haunts the front door, awaiting her arrival. When she does come through the door, it's old home week, and he is Sir Galahad, following his lady love around with a velvet pillow, and an ice pack for her to elevate her leg,and to ice down the now stitched up, sore swollen knee. He plants her in a desk chair with wheels on it, so she can move about more easily, and then Sherry arrives for dinner and bible study, and Yon son sets about cooking the pork roast and pork fritters, french fries and stir-fry,and delectable strawberry short cake, while I make the salad.I had a little bit of this and little bit of that while filling up on salad and stir-fry and leaving plenty of room for the dessert. We had bible study, and then set about to play games and just had a grand time, with everybody talking at once over the accident and the sore and injured one.You might think that Yon son would be the one to collapse before anyone else, but he stayed up and attentive throughout the whole evening, while I made my excuses and retired to my bedroom about midnight, Sherry stayed until well after One a.m...but the happy reunited couple stayed up until around 4 a.m. playing games on the computer and talking until they both decided it was time to go to bed...or so I am told. When Seven rolled around, I was up and let my housekeeper in, and it wasn't long before Yon son got up, made a pot of coffee, and took his wife breakfast in bed. It's been like this all week long, with Yon son coming home from work, and going right in to dig her out of bed, and bringing her a tray, with food and drink and pills to take, and he keeps track and makes sure she takes them, too! He rises, and takes such care of her, and then cooks and bathes and dresses, and way he goes to work, calls her several times a night if he can't come by and check on her, and last Thursday night, when we had all those awful storms, he was on that phone, giving us advisory words on the tornado warnings and severe storm watches, and hail coming in! We didn't know. we were playing his computer games and watching campmeeting every night until after nine o'clock! We've had her with us for over a week now, and every morning he comes in with a great big smile, and tender, gentle concern for her, and bringing in goodies for breakfast, when he didn't feel awake enough to cook.
It does a Mother's heart good to see her son so happy that his wife is home with him for eight consecutive days. And she is just as bad....er....good...er...happy! It gives me hope for the future when I see them look at each other in that special way, eyes happy and bright, grinning at one another so sweetly, so pleased, just to be together again. And now, at the mention of a baby,Yon son gets all misty eyed, and she even let it slip that they just might try to have a baby.
My imagination runs wild, because I have always wanted to be a grandmother, and had just about given up on that becoming a possibility. After all, when you come right down to it, I can dream, and hope, but I have nothing to say about whether or not that can or will actually happen, but God knows I have been praying for just such an eventuality.
But, I am not going to hold my breath. To me, it is enough that they are happy enough to be considering maintaining the same residence, here, rather than at her house, where the population is just overflowing and the atmosphere is unstable and tense at best, and Yon son can scarcely tolerate being there without her.Obviously, something is in the wind, and things are about to change, but I am putting it all in the hands of the Lord. He knows my prayers, and knows and loves the kids. This past week, they both immersed themselves in the word of God,and hurried around to be here in place for Campmeeting every day, so the Lord is doing something, that much is certain. He brought them back together for a reason, and HE will accomplish that which he set in place to happen, with no help from me whatever...so. I will trust in the Lord, have faith in him, and keep my big fat mouth shut!
And that, m'dears, is the way to keep, and put yourself in a great frame of mind!!
