Here in the Quad-Cities, we have a wonderful innovation, for those of us who have computers, to warn us of approaching storms, emergency warnings, and regular updates throughout the day. It's called a firstAlert Personal cast, where with a cookie, they link your computer to their website, and it puts a big, blue six on your spacebar, that blinks at you when there is an update. If there is a watch or warning of bad weather coming, or taking place, such as when the national weather service issues a winter storm warning, or winter weather advisory, the six turns red, blinks and beeps at you! Well, Saturday night, I could feel it in my Bones, so to speak, that there was a storm on it's way, and so, in preparation for Yon son's trek to work, I went to the site, and got the weather report, and printed it out so there would be no surprises once he got behind the wheel. It's all very handy and instructive, and personal, because they even call yon son by name. It said:
Dear Yon,(Not his name)
Saturday will be sunny with increasing clouds during the afternoon and evening. Overnight rain will move into the area with possible thunderstorms in our southern cities. We also have a chance of freezing rain in the early morning hours. Northern cities should see minor snow accumulations tomorrow. more...
So, about 9:30 he wakes me up with the news that he has been called in off the streets to dispatch, because the regular dispatcher is sick, and none of the other regular dispatchers want to come in.The manager and the big boss also declined to dispatch, because it is a harry job,and they don't do it well anyway. Besides that, Yon son is the only one who can handle doing both jobs efficiently and well, without freeking out if there is a lot going on, and the cab company gets "Slammed". But, he and I are used to this happening. Anything Yon son puts his hand to, he does it, and does it well. So, in preparation for a busy night, he woke me so I know he won't be home early in the morning, and to make a lunch, and take his bible, and a game, just in case there is any down time. We know the drill, and it is useless to be overly concerned, because we know that God is in control, and there is a reason why this occurred the way it did, since the streets are going to be a mess, and filled with drivers who are either drunk, blind, crazy, or all three. (That is a direct quote from my father the first time he took me to Kingston Stadium parking lot to give me my first driving lesson. As I recall, he repeated it every time I got behind the wheel from then on, and that is the quote I used on Yon son when I taught him to drive, about the same way.) But, I digress. So, at 11:00P.m. he took over the office, and we have been in contact off and one ever since. About 1 a.m. Yon son got slammed, bad! Calls were coming in about 50 in an hour, and he had only four drivers, and one of them was out of town. Every call was told it would be a hour and a half, to two hour wait. About 2 a.m., I looked out the kitchen window, and I could tell that there was more than just a rain storm. I Could. Not. Believe. My. Eyes! It was snowing!! I no more than finished posting my first blog, than that big 6 turned bright red,and began flashing and peeping at me. Un-flippin-believable! Naturally, this was long after I had determined that the prediction was all wrong, so, what in the deuce were they doing at that late hour, just then, getting the word out that we had severe winter weather "coming our way?" Coming our way?? It had already been here for over an hour.(Sigh) I am so glad that God got Yon son off the streets long before this mess moved in, or he would probably be the one trying to drive on the highway in this horrid, dangerous storm, and meanwhile, someone else would be in that office, loosing trips left and right. I just talked to him. He's got it all covered, as I knew he would. It sure is nice to know that God can keep our kids protected, long after it is out of our hands. After all, we can only guess what they are going to come up against, and obviously the weatherman doesn't know for sure, either. But, when you pray over your children, asking the Lord to bless, protect and guide them, every day,and in stressful times, pray without ceasing, believing, and standing on his promises, then you can see the hand of God moving in your child's life, and it doesn't take long for you to understand why things happen the way they do.All honor and glory to God,for his mercy endureth forever! Praise be to the Lord, oh, my soul. Blessed be the name of the Lord.
