STARTING EARLY,KEEPING IT SIMPLE, PERFECT TIMING
1.Circumstances forced us to have our Thanksgiving Dinner the night BEFORE the Holiday, on Wednesday night, and now being alone on the day won't be awful at all, because we had our celebration, and it was perfectly wonderful. Now how happy I am to have the pressure off! And all those yummy left-overs from the big dinner to snack on all day today.
2.I was dismayed at first that the things I normally have for Thanksgiving day I could not get...not available...day before payday, and a variety of other reasons. But it turns out that simple is best. The usual flower centerpiece was replaced by a fabulous bowl holding left over Halloween candy, upon which I piled some brilliant tangerines..Gad! it was gorgeous!..and it didn't wilt or fade during the evening! The gaps in the menu were filled in by a guest, for the most part...and it was completely painless to them, and whatever I still did not have, we did not miss! We still had all the major components of the meal...the Turkey, the dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, the green bean casserole, the cranberry sauce, my homemade Bavarian creme salad, warm yeast rolls, sweet potatoes, and Pumpkin pie with whipped topping, and instead of wine, we toasted the day and each other with grape juice. Delicious!
3.The Turkey was timed to come out of the oven half past seven-Bible study started at seven, so when the bird came out early, and brought to the table, they were still singing. We lit the candles, and sat down to Pray over the food, ourselves and give thanks to God, just as they were praying to the Lord that everyone would have a safe and blessed Thanksgiving, we didn't miss a word or a beat of the service. It all blended so perfectly that it seemed to have been a moving of the Lord that it should all work in concert together. This has all been such a blessed event, that I believe we all felt the presence of the Lord, and it brought home to me that every day should be Thanksgiving day, not just once a year, but more than the timing, everything was so Good, none of us could recall when we had had a better Holiday dinner, and all the glory and honor and praise for that goes to my heavenly father!
