( YOU'LL FORGIVE ME IF I CAN'T SAY WHO THE LADY WAS THAT SANG THIS SONG. IT MAY HAVE BEEN TAMMY WYNETTE, LYNN ANDERSON, OR EVEN LORETTA LYNN , OR SOMEONE ELSE ENTIRELY, BUT SHE HAD A BEAUTIFUL VOICE, AND IT ALWAYS MADE ME CRY. GET OUT YOUR HANKIES, GIRLS!)
My little boy came to me as I was cooking supper tonight, and handed me a piece of paper-so I dried my hands and sat down to read it, and this is what is said:
- for cutting the grass $5.00
- for cleaning my room $1.00
- for going to the store for you $ .50
- baby-sitting my brother $ .25
- taking out the garbage $1.00
- for a good report card $5.00
- for cleaning and raking the yard $2.oo
- total owed $14.75
As I read his bill for services rendered, memories flashed through my mind , so I turned over the paper, picked up the pen, and this is what I wrote :
For the nine months I carried while you were growing inside me, No Charge!
For all the nights that I've sat up with you, doctored and prayed for you, No Charge!
For all the trying times, and all the tears that you've caused through the years, there's No Charge-
When you add it all up, the cost of my love is No Charge!
For all the nights that were filled with dread, and for the worries I knew were ahead, No Charge!
For the toys, food, and clothes, and even wiping your nose, son, there's No Charge-
And when you add it all up, the full cost of real love is No Charge!
Well friends, when my son finished reading what I had written, he looked up at me with great big old tears in his eyes and he said, "I sure do love you Mom", then he turned the paper over, and took the pen and wrote in big letters he wrote,
" PAID IN FULL"
When you add it all up, the full cost of real love is No Charge!
