I was listening to Christian radio this morning while sipping my first cup of mocha, and they did the normal "What are you thankful for today?" to the man on the street, and callers-in, who came up with all the usual responses, glad to be alive, glad I've got a job, glad for my family...and many, many of the responses were, thankful for Jesus, for knowing Jesus, and for salvation and so forth. Then, they did something different. They asked the question, " What would make you more thankful?" I was a tiny bit surprised that even amongst Christians who should know better, the answers sounded much as the secular world would have been, " Winning the lottery." or just flat, " more money." and second to that was " peace in the world" " lower gas prices" or " cheaper gas." As Yon son and I sat there sipping, and getting our eyes open, we listened, and I was considering the question, and I recognized that same look on Yon son's face as well. After a long silence, we both lifted our hands, and I slipped my fingers into his palm," I couldn't be any more thankful than I am right now.." He said. " How did they taste?" I responded with a nod, meaning the words he had taken right out of my mouth.
