It's a short blog tonight. I am sooo tired, I can barely think straight. Everything started out so strangely...the whole day, that I should not have been surprised when things got weird. I was just checking my stats, following some referrers back, when the kitchen door flew open, and I heard that call that every mother knows and dreads, and responds to." Mother! I need you! I had a bike accident!" With my heart going 90 miles an hour, I dropped everything, and away to the kitchen I went, and when I saw him, I was so relieved not to see oddles of blood, I calmed a bit, but taking in his dishevel,I knew it wasn't nothing. He was covered with leaves and some dirt, which meant his body had hit the ground. After inspecting the damage, my alarm quieted even more. I assembled the first-aid kit, complete with a bowl of hot water, and fresh cleansing cloths and got to work washing his wounds and talking to him. It was a good distraction, and gave me an idea whether he should go to the hospital for x-rays. I decided not. He is going to be stiff and sore in the morning, and his knees and one leg will require fresh bandaging for another day or two, but otherwise, I think he will be fine. Praise the Lord! It could have been so much worse, but once again, his heavenly father was looking out for him, and even sent an angel to pick him and his bike up before the situation got life-threatening.But, by Monday, he will in all likelihood be back to his usual three-mile-a-day-bike-ride.
You may be wondering why I am so tired.I'm not sure, but I think it has to do with the adrenaline surge one gets in response to an emergency, and the attendant anxiety of going over one's child with a fine tooth comb, looking for injuries, and the unaccustomed postures of cleaning, sterilizing, medicating, and dressing wounds. I haven't had occasion to do that for about 20 years, yet I must say that I was able to handle it all as though I have done it every day. It all comes back to a mother so fast, there is no time to stop and think what to do, you just do it automatically. And now, it is time to go to nest. Night-night!
