Now, I know right off the bat, that I am cutting myself out of a lot of hits, because of the title of this blog, but that doesn't really matter, does it? What matters is, if you are a bible reading person, that you have a bible that is correct in it's translation, and easily understood..and wouldn't it be a nice boon for it to be enjoyable as well? I want to talk to you today about your version of the bible. Just how close to the genuine article is it? If you have a King James Version, that is good. But it's not the best. If you are one of thousands who find the Niv, or some other version better, because it is easier to understand, I can't say that I blame you for wanting to know what the meaning is of what you are reading, but doesn't it bother you that in many cases, these new versions sacrificed explicitly and preciseness for so called Modern language? Just because someone has written a recommendation for your version, doesn't mean it is correct in it's translation.Over the years, I have had occasion to look at, and to purchase dozens of Bibles, most of which were intended for use at Bible study, and I ended up giving away. But, I have yet to buy, or give a modern language version, because, frankly, I don't trust them. For myself, my spouse, my children, and those precious souls seeking the Lord, I want one that says" Translated out of the original Greek, and with the former translations diligently prepared and revised by his majesty's special command." It seems rather sad doesn't it, that there should be an either or situation, for such an important item? Well, what would you say if I told you I have found a way to bring this controversy to an end? I have a new Testament right now, that puts into layman's terms, along with the original King James version, right there, along with it, not in another part of the book where you have to keep flipping back and forth to look things up.My family and I love it, and my friends love it. I'll give you an example.:
Luke11 .37 and as He spoke, a certain Pharisee besought Him to dine with him: and He went in, and sat down to meat. 38. And when the Pharisee saw it, he marveled that He (Jesus) had not first washed before dinner(the "washing" spoken of here had nothing to do with sanitation; the Pharisees taught that a demon sat on unwashed hands, and unless a certain ritual was performed, the demon could be ingested while eating). 39. And the Lord said unto him, Now do you Pharisees make clean the outside of the cup and platter(outward show); but your inward part is full of ravening and wickedness(presents a scathing denunciation). 40. You fools(what an indictment! and he said this to the man's face)did not He(God)who made that which is without make that which is within also?(the inward man must be changed as well, and can only be changed by the power of God)41. But rather give alms of such things as you have;and, behold, all things are clean unto you.(The Greek here reads:" But rather the things that are within, that is the heart, the will, the affections, then all other actions proceeding from a heart truly given to God, will be acceptable to him; otherwise such action will be "dead works"; thus, the Lord perpetually taught the necessity of the New Birth")
And so it goes. This is the nice sized, comfortable to hold, leather bound, sewn together Expositor's New testament, the Counselor's Edition, with gold lettering and all sorts of goodies in the back, including how to address certain problems, and with room for notes in the back. And no, I am not selling them. But if you Love the Lord, and You Love the Word of God, and want to understand it better, then you should have this. I Love my copy so much, that now that JSM has come out with The Expositor's Full Bible, I have already ordered mine, and I can't wait to get it!
