OKAY! I'M OFF ON A RANT! In the last day or so, at lucid times during this bout with the flu, I have caught this self-appointed whatever he is, on television, telling some interviewer how the country feels about what kind of job the PREZ is doing. This is done through POLLS. HUH. Well. Just for the record, NOBODY ASKED ME. No, nor any of my family, nor anyone else I know! I don't even know where he gets the right or the effrontery to get up there and have the public's ear to say these things. He's a nobody in a suit, probably sending other suits out in Washington, with clipboards to stand on street corners to ask everyone who passes by some silly questions...probably just using what he wants to use from the results, to back up HIS personal point of view. After all, I don't think this guy has ever been elected to any office of note, has no responsibilities other than wherever it is he draws his paycheck from. WHO is HE? Why do people listen to him? All I know about this guy is he has a Sunday morning talk show, that is completely political. That right there tells me he's not a good Christian brother, or he would be in church on Sunday morning, not on Television! Oh! That's right. I remember now. It's meet the depressed, or the Press, isn't it? So, this is the caliber of man we have in the press! Now, no longer content to just report the news, he is now involved in being PART OF THE NEWS! And to report to the rest of the country, just how good a job our President is doing, in his estimation. What a lucky guy, to have all that brilliance, all that talent, all that insight, in just one small ugly body! How does he do it? What he and a few other political watchers seem to forget is, Mr. Bush is just one man, doing the best he can under some pretty difficult conditions, and doesn't need Tim Russert breathing down the back of his neck, waiting to see if he's going to wind his butt or scratch his watch, as Dolly Parton puts it. What he needs is a country behind him, supporting him, praying for him, and understanding the man cannot change everything with a wave of his hand! What Russert needs to understand is, there are a lot of us widowed mothers out here, that know our Vets, if they were still alive, would be squarely behind the president, saying YEAH! We are Americans! We have been attacked, and we don't lay down and play doormat for any other country! But the truth is, he chooses not to understand these things, not for lack of intellect, but because it makes him look big and important to tear down the one man who is doing a very complicated service for our country, with lots of advisers pulling him this way and that, and I admire the man who can do that, and juggle so many tasks, all at the same time, and come out and speak to the country on a regular basis, looking cool and composed, and every inch the President, even if he does mispronounce a strange word on occasion. I do it all the time, and I don't even have his mind-boggling responsibilities! I venture to say, that if Tim Russert were to be thrust into George W. Bush's shoes for even one day, he would fall into an emotional and mental heap. Therefore, I suggest, that someone encourage Mr. Russert to get off George's back, leave him alone to do his job, and go and do his own job, at least until he's appointed to the cabinet. HA! Like that's going to happen? I don't think so. And, in the course of his job, if Mr.Russert is called upon to take and interpret polls, he could at least be more clear about where these polls were taken, and amongst whom, and how many individuals were involved. Because frankly, I don't put any trust or stock in any report that begins, " In the latest polls..." I want to know WHO. TELL me who!
