When George Orwell wrote the book, I am sure, he never envisioned just how a circituitus route society would take to arrive at his nightmarish projected future of the world,or what forces would drive us to go to the lengths that now have catapulted us into the world of his creation"1984". It began as only a television show, of the new genre, "reality" programing, but since terrorists have dropped a fun new equation into the mix, we now have far more "reality" filming than was ever expected to occur, when this stuff all began.Yet, all unexpectedly, regardless of how forewarned we were, here we are.Nothing is private.Everything is on video tape, or being photoed by cell phones, and everyone, it seems are connected by computers.Go through a stop light, and you will get a ticket in the mail.Talk to the wrong people, or look like the wrong people, or wear what the bad folks are wearing, and you will get hauled in, and questioned, or prevented from taking your flight, and it doesn't matter what you say, you are a suspect. And yet, in view of the latest events, it is all thoroughly justified. That is the scary part. Now the door is open. Now there is reason behind your rights, little by little being chipped away, all in the name of "National Security." And even recognizing that, what is the viable alternative? Can we now turn around and say, no, we aren't going to take these "precautions"? Hardly. There is too much at stake. The public will not stand still for all and sundry to board planes in, or into their country, when there is no checking going on of whom is going to be sitting across the aisle from us, or our son or daughter or grandchild, and we are just on the brink of this sort of security clearance being enacted to ride a bus, or use the subway. It won't be long before George Orwell's 1984, will be a perfect picture of our everyday life. Who knew that when he wrote it, it would become a self-fulfilling prophesy? If you read it, you might also pick up a copy of "Animal Farm." Which was an earlier work of his.Should you read both of these books together, in light of the present trends, it will absolutely curl your hair.
