After bible study last night, I took a glance at the new show, on the ABC Network, "Dancing With the Stars." It was listed on at 8p.m. here, but it seemed to have bumped Supernanny. and was on an hour earlier.Well. I was less than impressed. I mean, it was nice to see some actual ballroom dancing, but I guess I expected more. Better sound, better music, better moves, better costuming, and better ambiance. For starters, the staging looked like a warehouse. It would have been much more appropriate to have the setting be more like a nightclub, of the big band era. With chandeliers and an actual orchestra, not blotches of color, and strobe lights flashing. It would have been conducive to the mood the judges wanted the dancers to emote, had they been seated at nice tables, with tablecloths, rather than on a bench of some kind at a strictly utilitarian table.I could go on, but frankly, I was so disappointed at the anti-lavishness of the whole thing, I didn't watch much of the show. The producers should watch a few Fred Astaire movies, and get a clue.
p.s. Where were the Stars?
Okay, here it is several months later, and this being Friday, February 10, 2006, and the opening night of the Olympics, I was FORCED to go looking for something besides NBC's coverage of all those athletes walking around waving flags. So, I switched over to "Dancing with the Stars", and I was pleasantly surprised.I take back every mean thing I said about this show from the first time I saw it.The set was attractive, and the costumes were much nicer, and I saw Stars, like Lisa Rinna! Wow. She just gets better and better! George Hamilton was there too, but he had to go, so sad.Perhaps I shall be watching again next time.Hopefully, there will other, new stars I recognize!
September 12, 2006!! Latest update! Hey now! That's what I call "Dancing with the Stars!" Jerry Springer, and Harry Hamlin, both dancing with world class dancers, and Lisa Rinna in the Audience, cheering Harry on,and other recognizable stars too. All of them dressed to the nines, and the music being done well, with a good Orchestra, and the ballroom graced with ambiance, including chandleliers! Now that is what I call CLASS!
