I've heard the question asked more than once. I asked so and so out,but she said she had to stay home and wash her hair. I'm beginning to think it's just an excuse. So, what's the story? The guy says, I wash my hair every day. It doesn't take me all day or all night to wash my hair. How come it takes her one whole evening to do what I do in ten minutes? Thank you for asking. I am delighted to finally clear this thing up. For ages now, men have moaned over this, and it is my clear duty to set things straight.
In the first place, yes, it does take a woman longer to wash her hair than a man, simply because it is a good time to take care of some other grooming issues. Not only does she have to wash it, but she has to condition it also. Perhaps, she also streaks, frosts, or tints her hair, and then would be an excellent time to do this also. Then, there is the drying issue. Women, by and large, have longer, denser hair, and we all know that blow-drying damages said hair. So, it will take anywhere from an hour to two hours, for the hair to be dry enough to style.Unless the lady likes her hair pin-straight, she has either a perm, which we know takes little time to style, or she has to use a curling iron, hot rollers, or a myriad of other products on the market to set the curls into place.Hot rollers will take up to ten minutes to heat up, and again, depending on the length of the hair and the complexity of the style, anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to roll up, and an equal time to cool and set, before the rollers are taken out. Once out, she still has to style the hair. which may or may not involve mousse or spray...before, after. or during the curling process. If she uses a curling iron, it usually takes about the same time to heat up, but if she has long hair, she will probably work mousse through her hair before she attempts to curl it, and this is time consuming. However, once the iron is hot, with long hair, using a spiral wrap barrel, she could spend up to three hours curling her hair. That is assuming she is experienced in using the curling iron, and knows exactly how to get the desired results. If she has to play with it to get it right, or has to go back and re-do a curl, or several, or reapply the mousse, naturally, it will take longer. If she uses a regular round barrel, large or small, the actual curling won't take as long, but she may have to take more time, if she uses a setting gel, or mousse on each section she intends to curl, just before she uses the iron. Okay. Now we have the hair set into curls, now we wait. How long, again, is up to her and her hair. During this time she may file, clip, unpolish, and scrub her nails, and then re-polish them. She may do both her fingernails and toenails, or just her fingernails. But, once she has polished them, she cannot touch her hair until they are bone dry, otherwise, she has just wasted a lot of time, and will have to do them all over again, and possibly her hair as well. But many women do not stop there. Once in the mood to groom, she may go all out, and wax her legs, shave her underarms, pluck her eyebrows, and give herself a facial. I could go on and on in great detail, but I think you get the idea. When she says she has to wash her hair, it's not as simple as it sounds.Remember that next time, and maybe call her, or send her some flowers, offering your support and let her know what a worthwhile thing it is she is doing. If you do call, don't be surprised if you hear an old movie in the background, or some strange female giggling. Girls enjoy doing these things in packs, you know.
Secondly, yes, she may indeed be using the hair washing thing as an excuse, particularly if you wanted to take her out on Friday or Saturday night, and it's already Wednesday or Thursday when you ask her. By that time, it's almost too late to be invited out, especially if it is an important date, like to a nice restaurant, or a company dinner. A lady needs time to prepare, and if you haven't asked her well in advance, it is almost an insult to be asked at the last minute. But, take heart, because if she used an excuse, she is sending a message that she would go out with you, had you asked sooner. Try again, and make it a top priority to see to it that she knows you think she's worth waiting for. If she still has to wash her hair on that night, perhaps you should be saying, well, what night is good for you?
And if, by some fluke, she still seems to cloud up on the issue of when the two of you can get together, then perhaps, it is time to start seeing women who go to the hair salon once a week, and are free when you are!
Last of all, if she has real short hair, and there is no curl there, forget it, and her. She just doesn't want to go out with you.
