Yes, I am off on another rant! When my Internet was disconnected,I was upset, and thought of it as an inconvenience. But now, I have had time to access the damage! UNBELIEVABLE! You know how you collect things after you have lived in the same house for a long time? Well, for me it's the same way, with my computer. It is going to be one monstroutious job to get it all back the way I had it.I had a huge collection of gorgeous pictures for my slide show, screen saver. All of them, gone! All my beautiful wallpaper, wiped out! Some of which I shall never be able to replace. My computer was restored to the new born baby freshness of a computer hot off the assembly line. When I called tech support, they apologized all over themselves for the inconvenience, but that didn't change the fact that I had lost so much wonderful stuff. But, they did help me to get back on line, but only just barely. I was able to come to TypePad, and do a couple things, but when I tried to return, my "home page" on the computer blocked my going back on line.I could see the Internet pages where I wanted to go, but it kept insisting that I was working"off line",and I couldn't click on anything. How's THAT for frustration? It was just as if I were being held captive by my computer...Hmmm.How's THAT for an idea? OH! It's been done. Anyway, Yon son and I searched the whole house over for the dsl CD ROM...nothing.This took time and a lot of work, because I have a huge three bedroom apartment, with lots of drawers and bookcases, and nooks and crannies to shove stuff into. I hadn't the fuzziest idea where the dawgon thing had been put.Mine is one of those places where we are almost always in a constant state of flux, not because I have an acquisitive nature, but because my kids like to spoil me rotten. Something new is always being lugged through the door, (such as the freezer) and room must be made for whatever it is.The only safe places in my house, are my chair, my purse, my water bed,and down the front of my blouse! Go ahead, laugh, but I am not about to save a CD ROM down the front of my blouse! It..Just wouldn't work! So here we are ripping the place apart, and finally I told Yon son, call tech support, and ask for another CD. They agreed to it, but it will take about 5 business days to reach us. Talk about downhearted.Yon son had to leave, and there I sat, deflated. So, I had a little talk with the Lord, and I told him, I want to have church on Sunday. It is on the Internet. Where is it? Well, long story short...(too late!) We had already searched all the obvious places, so now it was time to look in unusual places.Storage bins. The stacks and stacks of DVDs and music Cd's..it is the same size, and could have gotten mixed in with those things. After going through the stacks, I put them carefully off to one side, so I could search the storage bin.I pulled the cover off, slid it carefully towards me,and the neat stacks went sliding to their deaths.I didn't stop to pick them up, I just went on searching. Time enough later on, once I found the prize, don't you know, to clean up then. But, it wasn't in the storage bin. And, I had a terrible mess to clean up. I had a choice, of expending extra energy straightening up, or to go on with my quest. So, I closed up the storage bin, slid it back into place, and left that room, until later.I needed a drink of water, and to wash my grimy hands. As I went through the dinning room, I happened to catch a glimpse of an in-basket, which I had pointed to yesterday, and said, could you, Yon son, reach down and pull out that basket? It is, after all, right next to the computer, and had been pushed back for some reason, and other stuff put on top of it. With my physical limitations, I couldn't do it right then, but he could and he said, yes I will, later. Right now, I have to go.Inspired, I cruised on into the kitchen, grabbed my reacher, and tooled back.Well, it took some unusual contortions, and a lot of lifting of folders and magazines, but I finally uncovered the basket, and dragged it out with my reacher, and sorted through it. I said,"NUTS!" And then, I looked again, at the cubby-hole where it had been shoved, and what do you know? Some loose papers had slid off the basket. With a heightened sense of impending victory, I snaked that wonderful reacher back under the desk, and just as I pulled a cluster of papers towards me, Yon son came in the back door, and called out"HI! I'm just here for a pit stop..." and that's all he had time to say.
"I got It!" I shrieked, waving the booklet containing the CD-ROM in the air, " I found it!"
"Well, of course." He said after he picked his jaw up off the floor," I knew it was here, someplace." It didn't bother me that he was so blase about my having found it. Because, I went ahead immediately, and started installing the dsl, with a great big grin on my face. And, after his "pit stop",he went ahead and cleaned up the mess. I didn't tell him to, and I didn't expect him to,but on the other hand, I already told you. They spoil me rotten.
