MORE THAN THREE
Yes, I am doing beautiful things, but tonight, I can't limit myself to just three...
1.After a fairly miserable week,of high pressure, the barometric pressure is dropping, and I just heard a rolling thunder go across the heavens, and I am so relieved, and grateful. Good ole' arthur* acts up pretty badly on me when the storm is coming in, but once it hits, I start to feel much better.
*(otherwise known as arthritis)
2. I love a rainy night.Always have, even before I knew anything about arthur.See, I had a granmother who was born on a hill. She got a bit dingy when it was storming, and would pace the floor and wring her hands, and worry aloud, and my Mother, bless her,saw that her behavior taught us to be frightened of rain and thunderstorms. So she took us out on the front porch, and sat with us and talked to us about the wonder of nature, and the beauty of storms. It was like music apprechiation,(which she did also) but with rain, wind, thunder, and lightening.I still watch out for dangerous weather, however. I am not stupid. At the first flash of lightening, I will go hunt up my candles, but it doesn't scare me like it did my grandmama. But after I find my candles, then I go hang out the kitchen door, or sit by an open window, and say things like,"Go God,Go!" Enjoy the breeze on my face, and the sound of the rain as it falls.I thrill to the roar of a strong wind in the trees.
3.My plate of a red delicious apple, and an orange, sliced up, ready to eat as I work at the computer.
4. Contemplating what to do with that wonderful roundsteak in the freezer.Maybe pepper steak.Or swiss steak?Hm.Perhaps, Stroganoff? Or...how about if I throw it into the slow cooker with a 7 bone roast, and make barbeque? That would last all week-end. Oh, and by the way. What kind of genius is it at the meat market, that de-bones a 7 bone roast? My neighbor's dog had plans for those bones!
5.Sitting back in my chair for a moment.Listening to the patter of rain on my window pane. Breathing deeply, as I take off my specs for a momentary swipe at the sleepy-sand in my eyes. But for the rain, it is quiet in my home.and that's a very beautiful thing.
6.I love my home.Every day I look around me, and thank God for it.I loved it when we first moved in and had only beds and a t.v. I love it now, when it is filled to overflowing with all manner of oddities.
7.And now, the silence is broken by a quick, drop in visit from my son. He's working, and can't stay long, but it's nice that he can check in with me overnight. He brings me something I just ran out of, what a sweetie. I ask how things are going, and we chat a bit, and he plays with the cat...THEN there goes his phone, he has a trip, and he's off...with a "bye-bye",and he's out and down the road. Perhaps he'll be back soon, or maybe I won't see him until morning. Who knows?
8. Vases of flowers in every room.Tulips in the kitchen. Lilacs in the dinning room.Peonies in the living room. But, none in the bedrooms.I don't like having to compete with a plant or flower for oxygen when I am sleeping...
9. My new George Foreman grill.Everyone fights over who gets to cook on it, and then, they enjoy cleaning up! How wonderful! I can just sit and watch!uh, while I make the salad, naturally.
10.I just sent away for my brand new study Bible, the full old and new testaments, and it is the Expositor's new edition. Can't hardly wait to get it! It is times like these, the Lord teaches me patience. Harumph!God, grant me patience, and I want it right now.
11.I saw a blurb on television, today, with the sound turned down, and I believe the footage was showing a storm aftermath somewhere out west. The sun was shinning, and the countryside looked wet, but the sky was angry and dark, but off in the distance, was the most glorious rainbow. All I could think was, there it is, the sign of God's promise to us...
12. A while back, we had just such a storm, and just such a sky, but as my son and I stepped out to see what damage, if any, had been done to the garden, we saw the most fabulous DOUBLE rainbow. We stood and stared, and lest you think I am just easily impressed, let me tell you, all the nieghbors from all over came and stood, and looked at the sky with us for over an hour. Oh! and there was no damage to the garden, except someone stole my pumpkin...I guess they needed it more than I did.
13.Making banana-nut muffins out of over-ripe bananas. I can never seem to eat them all before they reach that stage. Must be psycological, for I find muffins a perfect snack with tea.
14.Sometimes, I must have candy, when I can feel my blood sugar dropping. Maybe a blessing in disguise, because otherwise, I won't touch candy. But my favorites are buttered popcorn jelly-belly's, chocolate oranges, chocolate covered cherries, Dove dark chocolate bars, and York peppermint patties. Yum!
15. No list of beautiful things that include food would be complete if I didn't mention my favorite drinks. Iced tea (unsweetened),Peach snapple, diet caffine free coke, diet a&w root beer, and ice water, mocha made with home-brewed coffe, and quick shop cocoa, with coffee mate hazelnut creamer, and the rare because it is so rich double chocolate, double malted milk shake.
16.Have you ever noticed, you can make it home with all the sandwiches, but not with all the fries? Well, at least, in my case this is true, because I have to eat them hot! Once they are cold, I am done with them.
17. Ice cold pumpkin pie, homemade, with whipped topping.
18. To have a pet that will eat all my peas and carrots...because I won't,unless they are raw.Peas are little green balls of nastiness, unless they are fresh, in a seven layer salad.Or, sugar snap peas.
19.Try orange or real lime flavored sherbet, with hershey's chocolate sauce.Refreshing, and it cleanses the pallet.
20.And (drum roll please) the number one thing for you to try in this cavalcade of beautiful things, homemade muffins, made from two or more kinds of left-over pie, fruit and nut is best, throw in a blender with an egg, spoon into muffin cups, bake at 400 for 15 minutes, done when the tops spring back when touched, and remove from jim pans as soon as it's out of the oven. beautiful!
